HMS is celebrating our 50th anniversary this year!
On September 4th, Dr. Trybulski, accompanied by the HMS Jr. Raider and Vice Principals Mrs. Porowski and Mr. Ciccarone, welcomed students and faculty with some words commemorating all those who have been a part of this vibrant learning community for five decades and rededicating the school to the service of the youth of Hillsborough for many generations to come.

"Today marks the start of the 50th school year of Hillsborough Middle School.
To commemorate this Jubilee Year, the golden anniversary of HMS, it is my distinct honor to recognize all those who have crossed this threshold over the past 50 years contributing to the long and distinguished achievements of this nationally recognized, Blue Ribbon School and to proudly re-dedicate her to the mission of serving the young adolescents of Hillsborough in the continuous pursuit of excellence in the arts, athletics, and academics. May she, and all those who gather here as a community of learners, continue to flourish now and for generations to come.
Happy Birthday HMS and Welcome 2025!"

On April 30th of 1976, the first class of students to occupy Hillsborough Middle School buried a time capsule in the front lawn of the school. It was arbor day and along with the time capsule they planted a cluster of oak trees to mark the opening year of the school. They inserted a map of the location of the time capsule into a plaque that has hung on the wall of HMS for the last 50 years until today.
Today, we took the plaque off the wall and carefully pried open the backing to reveal the map.
Right where they said it would be, we dug and found two large sealed white containers the contents of which were placed there 50 years ago reflecting the 1975-76 school year.

The time capsule will be placed on display in the HMS Library/Media Center for all to see until April of this school year - 2026 - when we will invite dignitaries and alumni from that first class to join us in the unveiling of the contents of the time capsule along with the dedication of another to pass along from 1975 and 2025 forward until the centennial celebration in 2075.
