HMS Open House

HMS Open House!

Wednesday, August 27th (7th grade*) from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm 

Thursday, August 28th (8th grade*) from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm.  

*Although days have been designated by grade, students may attend either day as convenient.

Students, accompanied by an adult, are welcome to visit HMS during these times for self-guided tours to become acquainted with the location of classrooms, common areas, and to practice opening lockers, etc.  Maps of the school will be available at the school entry points.  (See “Student Schedules” section below for more info on when and how to access your tentative schedule information).  Please preview “how to open a locker” information and video on our website at: https://hms.htps.us/o/hms/page/lockers

The HMS Home & School Association will be on hand with RaiderWear and information for the upcoming school year.  

Teachers are not scheduled to be present during the open house events as they do not report to school until September 2nd.   Individual classrooms will not be open.  

We understand that many students may be on vacation or otherwise unable to visit HMS during the open house.  Unfortunately, given the tight schedule for cleaning and facility preparations throughout August and the security of the facility while staff are in meetings and working to prepare for opening day during the days right after Labor Day, it is not possible to have students in the building at times other than these designated open house dates & times. All students will receive a full orientation to HMS during a 90 minute extended homeroom on the first day of school that will include time to set up lockers, tour the facility, and become acquainted with their schedule and classroom locations.


Health Office

HMS school nurses, Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Yuzon, will be available to receive medication forms and medications in advance of the upcoming school year, Aug 12 and again Aug. 26, 27 and 28 between 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.  

As a reminder, medication orders must be renewed every school year, even if your child self-carries their medication.  Any medication, including over the counter medication (OTC), requires a completed medication form by their physician.  Medication consent forms may be found on the district website at: HTPS Medical Forms .  Please submit asthma treatment plans, diabetes school management plans, epinephrine medication forms, medication request forms, seizure action plans, and any other information related to the health care of your child (including self-carry/self-administration orders for inhalers and Epinephrine auto-injectors) prior to the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year.

Also, this is a reminder that state-mandated health screenings will take place throughout the school year (7th grade: height, weight, blood pressure, hearing, and scoliosis. 8th grade: height, weight, blood pressure and vision). If you do not want these screenings performed in school, you must send Mrs. Williams (krwilliams@htps.us) an email with that request.

Please be sure to notify Mrs. Williams of any change to your child's health status (new immunizations, medication, medical diagnosis, surgery). If you would like to meet with Mrs. Williams please reach out to her via email to set up an appointment.

Bus Information

Student bus routes/times will be listed in Genesis on or about August 28th or at some point that week.  Courtesy bussing was reinstated last year, therefore all students in grades 7-8 will receive transportation services.  Questions or concerns regarding transportation should be directed to the district Transportation Department (908-431-6600, prompt #6).  


Chromebook Distribution

Chromebooks for all students in grades 5-12 will be available for pick-up at HHS during the last two weeks of August.  Look for more information to be shared in Mid-August via email and on the district website with details on the exact dates/times and procedures for Chromebook pick-up.  Students who are unable to pick-up their Chromebooks prior to the start of school will receive them in school on September 4th during our extended homeroom.


School Supplies

We do not produce individual teacher lists of school supplies, however, we have prepared a checklist of recommended and suggested supplies along with important tips for what students need to succeed at HMS posted on our website.  See: HMS School Supplies  


Student Schedules

Tentative schedules that include each student’s team, homeroom, locker & combination will post in Genesis after 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20th.  Keep in mind that schedules are subject to change up until the first day of school, September 4th, when students will receive official/final schedules during extended homeroom that morning.  


Summer Reading

If you haven’t started a summer read yet, now is the time to get started.  All HMS students are required to complete one of the summer reading selections for their respective grade.  There are a variety of choices available across a range of reading levels and genres from science fiction, fantasy, comedy, biography, classics, etc.  Visit the district website for complete details or click:  HMS Summer Reading.


Fall Sports

Students interested in fall sports must complete and submit all required registration and medical forms (updates and/or physical exams) no later than August 25th.  **Please note that all Summer sports physical paperwork drop off (for all students 7-12) is at Hillsborough HIGH SCHOOL on the gym side of the school off of Amwell Road.

[A black mailbox is located outside the High School on the gym side between doors C36 and C38.  Drop the paperwork into the drop box and the school nursing staff will submit your paperwork.  Please do not mail, email, fax, or give any paperwork to the coach.
