Health Curriculum

Today’s children are facing new challenges every day that threaten their physical, emotional and social well being. The Hillsborough Middle School Health Education program strives to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to make healthy, responsible, and risk free choices now and in the future.

Please note:  The resources cited in the curriculum are general resources used to support the curriculum.  For web resources, students are provided direct links to specific sections of the resource.  Since these are open source resources, students have access to content outside of the intended lesson plan, and they are able to navigate to any content available on the site.  We encourage parents to attend back to school night to hear about the curriculum being taught to the students as the teachers are the most informed regarding how the content is taught.

N.J.S.A. 18A:35-4.7 Parent’s Statement of Conflict with Conscience

The NJDOE recognizes and respects that some families prefer to have these conversations privately. Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:35-4.7, any child whose parent or guardian presents to the school a signed statement that any part of instruction in health, family life education, or sex education is in conflict with his or her conscience or sincerely held moral or religious beliefs shall be excused from that portion of the course.

Parents and guardians seeking to exercise this option should contact the school administration directly noting which portions of the course or in its entirety they wish to excuse their child.
