January 17, 2017

Today HMS marks the start of the 14th annual No Name Calling Week. NNCW was inspired by James Howe 's novel, The Misfits, about four middle school students who were taunted about their height, weight, intelligence and sexual orientation. They create a new political party during their student council elections, running on the platform of "No Name Calling." This week, we will have a number of activities to promote respect, starting with "Let's Trash Name-Calling." We will collect and trash hurtful words into a garbage can on the stage in the cafeteria, where these words belong. Tomorrow, let's all wear school colors to show that "HMS is United Against Name-Calling." And finally, we are excited to introduce TWO options for the annual NNCW contest - teams are invited to either make a public service announcement video OR decorate their homeroom doors with a message about respect. Teams will have the next two weeks to work on their video or doors. Good Luck!

Just a reminder that the H.M.S. Table Tennis Club is about to begin. Come and join the fun after school every Monday and Wednesday. The first Table Tennis Club meeting is Monday, January 23rd. Please see Mr. Gill in room B-5 for a club permission slip. Hurry, membership is limited.
