Extra, extra - read all about it! Click the link from the HMS website and check out this week's installment of The Word, the official newspaper of HMS!
In the "Features" section, veteran reporter Kiara Jones has an epic treat for our eighth-graders. They're only a few weeks away from their "big move" up to the high school, and staff from both our middle school *and* HHS have a lot of advice for them to make the transition easier. Our future freshman are sure to learn a LOT about how to prepare - and how to succeed - in the next exciting stage in their education.
Then, stick around in the "Features" section for Anya Konduru's moving story of a Team 8B student whose concern and compassion for the people of Ukraine inspired him to create a massive flag to show his support. That flag, in turn, motivated the creation of a bulletin board in the Commons Hallway that is turning both heads and hearts to the plight of the Ukrainian people.
And remember, HMS: if your team, your teacher, or your club is doing something special to make the school year a COOL year, contact either Ms. McManus or Mrs. Simons via the buttons on our website -- and they'll help you spread The Word!

Attention 8th grade students: On Tuesday, May 31st, Hillsborough High School's GSA (Gender Sexuality Alliance) is hosting a virtual meeting for incoming 9th graders who want to learn more about the club. If you are interested in attending, please reach out to Mrs. Mahler in the counseling office for more information.

Congratulations to the HMS girls lacrosse team on their victory over Montgomery yesterday winning the Central Jersey League Championship and ending a great season undefeated.

Schools will be closed on Monday, May 30th in observance of Memorial Day. While Memorial Day weekend is often seen as the unofficial start to summer, it is in truth a somber and reflective occasion for us to remember and pay tribute to the hundreds of thousands of American men and women who have fought and died throughout the years to protect our country from its founding days, through the civil war, through the global battles of the 20th century - WWI and WWII, to the many regional conflicts that have threatened freedom for ourselves and others around the world - even today. Take time this Monday to remember all those brave individuals who in the words of Abraham Lincoln gave their last full measure of devotion to the cause of freedom and the preservation of America and let us live lives worthy of their legacy today and every day.
