Extra, extra - read all about it! Check out this week's installment of The Word, the official newspaper of HMS!
If you have a New Year's resolution to take more pride in your appearance, then look no further than the "Entertainment" section: veteran reporter Xiomara Ranghel returns with The Word's very first FASHION column, in which she shares valuable tips for looking your best -- while respecting the HMS dress code.
However, if you'd rather happily remember the OLD Year than dive into the NEW one, then go to the "Features" section: 8D's Anya Konduru reports on the Student Council's Holiday Bake Sale, which made sure that HMS ended 2021 on a very sweet note!

And remember, HMS: if your team, your teacher, or your club is doing something special to make the school year a COOL year, contact either Ms. McManus or Mrs. Simons via the buttons on our website -- and they'll help you spread The Word!
Monday, January 17th is Martin Luther King Day, a federal holiday that honors the late Dr. King, who devoted his life to achieving racial equality. It is known as a "day of service," so think about how you can use this "day off" as a "day on" to help others in your family, neighborhood or globally.
Next week, we will also recognize two other important social justice campaigns:
Tuesday, January 18th marks the 6th National Day of Racial Healing, an annual day focused on celebrating our common humanity and taking action to create a more just and equitable world. And next week is also the 18th annual No Name Calling Week, an anti-bullying campaign to promote respect, inclusion and solidarity in our school community.

"Hat Not Hate" @ HMS will be the most visible way that we will promote the spirit of these campaigns. We will be lifting our "no hat" rule and distributing hand-made blue hats to every student and staff member who wants to wear one! These hats have been knitted or crocheted by folks from all walks of life and donated to HMS. The color blue represents peace and solidarity, and those choosing to wear the blue hats will symbolize support of anti-bullying. Also, interested students and staff can choose to make blue hats that will in turn be donated to other schools. Stay tuned for more information! Contact Mrs. Mahler in the Counseling Office with any questions.
