October 7, 2018
October is breast cancer awareness month, and the tradition continues here at HMS where we turn our school pink. Friday, October 11th is "PINK FRIDAY". So show your spirit for those who have fought cancer and for those who try to find a cure.

And now it's time for our Monday Mindful Minute. Let’s start by sitting up straight, with your feet firmly on the floor and your hands resting on your knees. If you are comfortable, close your eyes. If you prefer, soften your gaze and look towards your lap or the kaleidoscope on the board. Take a few slow, deep breaths. While you are breathing deeply, relax your shoulders, your stomach muscles, the muscles in your face, your hands and your legs. Let go of all the tension in your body. Now bring your attention back to your breath. Allow your breathing to be natural and relaxed while you listen to a one minute meditation. As the Week of Respect starts today, let's focus on respect as the foundation of all true connections - to others, to the environment, and to yourself. Listen to the following intentions and repeat them to yourself as you continue breathing slowly in and out.
May all beings be healthy, strong and safe from harm
May all beings live with an open heart
May all beings know joy and freedom
May all beings be free from animosity and hatred
May all beings know kindness and peace
May all beings be good friends to each other
Focus on maintaining these feelings of goodwill throughout your day. Now, return your awareness back to the room, and when you are ready, open your eyes.

Attention all students who have been accepted into Peer Leadership. The first meeting will take place tomorrow in the Media Center, at 7:45 sharp!
