Debate Club
Ms. Rubin
3:15 - 4:15 p.m. ; Wednesdays ; begins September 27th

We will debating issues pertaining to the following: language arts, science, social studies, current events, government, local Hillsborough issues, health and politics. This club will be challenging, fun and educational.

GEMS (Girls into Engineering, Math and Science)
Mrs. Kiel, Mrs. Russo
after school ; Thursdays ; begins November (special events), January (regular meetings)

GEMS (Girls into Engineering, Math, and Science) Club is open to all 7th and 8th grade girls to explore the wonder and opportunities in STEM. This year we will investigate STEM topics through experiments, guest speakers, field trips, and contests.

Geography Club
Mrs. Jefapolous
After school ; Thursdays, twice a month ; begins November

Do you love travel? Maps? Different people, places, and cultures? Join the geography club! We play games, have competitions among ourselves, and explore a lot of different resources to learn about the world. Each student can enter into the National Geographic Bee later in the year to see where you stand against students around the country.

History Club : American History Through Film
Ms. Harmsen
After school until 5:00 ; Thursdays ; November through May

This club will span the course of American history through film. Each week we will watch a movie (or documentary) that highlights a time period in the American experience. This club will have dual themes: Not only will we learn about American history by watching movies, we will also discuss how the filmmakers interpreted each time period, and what their portrayals say about the time in which each movie was made. The History Club will meet every Thursday after school until 5:30 from November through May.

HMS Math Club
Mrs. Torre
after school until 4:00 ; Thursdays, twice a month ; begins October

Members of the HMS Math Club will participate in math contests throughout the year including The Math League Contest, Math Olympiad, and Noetic Learning Math Contest. On meeting dates when there is not a contest, members will work together on problem solving skills.

The Science Olympiad
Mr. McLean
After school until 5:00 ; Mondays & Fridays ; begins October

The Science Olympiad Team is a rigorous academic competition team that meets twice a week after school. We train, build and study in order to compete against all the best and brightest schools across the state. Categories of competition have included subjects such as Anatomy, Astronomy, Hovercraft Racing and Rockets and more. If you like to pit your wits against others, or build the strongest and most capable robots, this is the club for you.

Teen Arts Festival
Mrs. Presuto

TAF, Somerset County Teen Arts Festival, celebrates arts in our school. One hundred students create works and or performances to be submitted and performed at the Somerset County Teen Arts Festival in May. Students may submit work or perform in the categories of dance, theater, video, visual arts, vocal and instrumental music, and writing. See the link to TAF from HMS home page for more information. This year's festival information will be announced in October. students may prepare performances/works as ready and seek a teacher sponsor through out the year. Application deadlines are generally in February.
