Battle of the Books
Mrs. Styles
After school ; TBD ; October

Do you LOVE to read? Do you enjoy debating information you’ve learned in books? Join Battle of the Books where you can read books, test your knowledge of them Family Feud style, and represent HMS in the regional battle! We meet once a week for 45 minutes from October through March. Those interested should complete the email survey or contact Ms. Styles for more information.

GEMS (Girls into Engineering, Math and Science)

after school ; Thursdays ; begins November (special events), January (regular meetings)

GEMS (Girls into Engineering, Math, and Science) Club is open to all 7th and 8th grade girls to explore the wonder and opportunities in STEM. This year we will investigate STEM topics through experiments, guest speakers, field trips, and contests.

Geography Club
Mrs. Jefapolous
After school ; Thursdays, twice a month ; begins October

Do you love travel? Maps? Different people, places, or cultures? Join the geography club! We explore a lot of different resources to learn about the world's geography and play games to test our skills. Each student can enter into the National Geographic Bee later in the year to see where you stand against students around the country. Hopefully, one of you will qualify for the state or even national Bee!

HMS Debate Club

3:15 - 4:15 p.m. ; Wednesdays ; September

This club will explore debating rules, connections to students' lives, future careers, public speaking, character education and teamwork. Issues will pertain to the following: language arts, science, social studies, current events, government, local Hillsborough issues, health, politics, HMS issues and psychology.

HMS Math Club

After school until 4:00 PM ; Thursdays, twice a month ; October

Members of the HMS Math Club will participate in math contests throughout the year including The Math League Contest, Math Olympiad, and Noetic Learning Math Contest. On meeting dates when there is not a contest, members will work together on problem solving skills.

 

Teen Arts Festival
Mrs. Presuto

The Teen Arts Festival is coming! The Somerset County Festival will take place in May 2019. This festival presents performances in the categories of dance, music: vocal and instrumental, theater, visual arts, video, and writing. ALL VISUAL ARTS SUBMISSIONS ARE SELECTED BY VISUAL ARTS TEACHERS. If you are interested in submitting a work or performing, submit a completed application to Mrs. Presuto in C13. Applications will be available on the bulletin board outside C13 or by clicking on the link the TAF on the HMS homepage in January. Email Mrs. Presuto at [email protected] with questions.
